Sweet Decorations

Back in October I saw these pictures at Decor8 and fell in love with them. I thought they looked so sweet and peaceful. I hung onto them as inspiration for the Christmas season. Sadly, I have not been too motivated to decorate this holiday season. All of the sudden I am getting the bug to decorate more. Better late than never!

Wreaths of Colonial Williamsburg

Here is a sampling of some of the wreaths seen on the doors in Colonial Williamsburg. Every door and most windows had wreaths placed on them. All the wreaths were made out of real, natural elements such as fruit or dried flowers. One even had baked cookies on it. They were all beautiful and we had fun admiring them!

Owl Baby

I am so excited for my sister Carrie, who is pregnant with her second child. She is due in April and has just purchased her first house. I am pretty certain she will ask me to help with the baby room. So far I am thinking Owls. I don't know if she has this in mind but, if I were to have another child, I would definitely use Owls as my main design element. I am just having fun playing around with different ideas and hoping she likes one of them!

Going Green

I have decided to mix things up in my living room and add more green to my color scheme. Currently I have a mix of whites and beiges with little hints of blue. My wing back chair is done in a simple blue and tan mini damask pattern. I definitely want a new slipcover made for it. Here are a two possibilities of fabrics I might use from Greenhouse Fabrics.

I also want a new couch! I am leaning towards a green velvet/cotton blend. I have been looking on Craiglist for a small, good quality couch that I can get relatively cheap and have reupholstered. The ideal shape of the couch would be:

My inspiration for the changes I want in the living room are a floral arrangement that I made using grocery store flowers and my new pillow from Pottery Barn.

Trying To Get In The Spirit!

So far I have been having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit. Some may think I am horrible but Christmas has never been my favorite holiday. This year has been especially difficult. We took the kids to the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Old Town Manassas and saw Santa ride in on the train. The kids had a wonderful time. Johanna also hosted a last minute Christmas cookie party. She invited GrandMary, Grammy, Aunt Nora, Aunt Carrie, and her little friend Olivia. She was not a very good hostess though:) She disappeared to her room when her friend arrived. The adults had a good time, even thought the cookies we baked that morning were not that good. So far the little activities are making the spirit rise!

So far this is the extent of my decorating for the holidays! I am trying to be more simple this year and not fret over how the house looks.

Christmas Tree Time

So far we have not gotten our tree. We usually go to a Christmas tree farm and cut our own tree down. This year my seven year-old asked if we could just go to Lowe's to get our tree because cutting down a tree takes too much effort. I agree!!! My only decision is the size of the tree. Last year we got a small tree and put it on a table so our one year-old could not pull it over. This year we have the puppy dilemma. We did get an 8 ft. tree and put it on our porch last year but that took a lot of effort. Oh, what to do! I love all these trees on tables from Martha Stewart.
